How to earn on your blog

How to earn on the blog

Do you want to start a blog and turn it into a job of your dreams? Maybe you already have one and think about turning it into an additional source of income? Awesome! You’re in the right place, as we are about to teach you how you can earn on your blog.

Okay, but where do I start?

That’s a good question, as creating a blog can often be confusing. There are a lot of blogging platforms (like Blogger, Wix, WordPress.org, or even Tumblr), that it’s hard to choose one and as a beginner, you are probably looking for an affordable solution. Fortunately, a lot of free sites offer you novice-friendly tools that give you a lot of flexibility and control over your platform. Some of the services are subscription-based and can cost you several dozen dollars a month. However, it is worth to invest a little bit more and buy a domain. It will look far more professional and you will have a full control over your blog.

The importance of content quality

The next step is deciding what your blog is about and who it is for. Choose one field of interest and stick to it. This could be your hobby something you’re passionate about, the area of your expertise, or something you have an extended knowledge about. Having an original and valuable content on your blog is crucial, as that’s what attracts people to your site. Consistency is a key, so be prepared to spend a lot of time to update the blog systematically. Two or three posts a week would be ideal, but it all depends on you. If you are not a full time blogger, try to post at least one entry each week. You can make it work by planning your work in advance.

Making your blog successful

Now that you have the content and you publish it regularly, it’s time to advertise and promote your blog. Below you can find some useful tips on how to attract traffic to your page.

1. Be present on social media. Who doesn’t have a Facebook or Instagram account? Create a space for your readers, where they can engage in a conversation, get updates about your activity, and get notified about new posts. You can begin with recommending your blog to your friends, and then you can buy ads on these platforms to reach even more people.

2. Learn about SEO and positioning. SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the action you take to make your blog on the highest possible position of search results. If your blog is about gardening, and someone is looking for an advice on growing plants on google, you want your blog to be the first thing they see. How to do that? Post consistently, use keywords and tags, incorporate images, graphic charts, and photos.

3. Take care of the visual design of your blog. Find a graphic designer who will create your logo, blog headers, and general layout. It could be really expensive, but it’s a good investment, as it will make your page appear more professional and attractive for readers.

How to monetise your blog

Of course, after putting all this hard work into your blog, you want to make make profit from it. One of the best ways to earn money on your blog is affiliation. We wrote about it in the previous post (here), so you might wanna check that out.

Another good way of making income is doing sponsored posts. How does it work? Find companies you want to collaborate with and contact them, offering an advertising space on your blog, or writing a dedicated post with recommendation of their products. Once you’re popular, businesses might start to contact you, so make it clear that you accept sponsorships. Remember about your audience and be honest with them. If you recommend a low quality product, you might loose your credibility, and people will eventually stop reading your blog. Also, don’t forget that the product should be appealing to your readers, so you should really get to know them and stick to the main theme of your blog.

Last but not least, if you already have your own company, or think about extending your business, you can advertise it on your blog. Creating a merchandise line and selling gadgets with your logo is a great idea. You can connect your online shop to your blog, and that would help you increase the sales. You can find out more about online stores here.
