How to make it on social media as a brand?

If you’re reading this, you probably want to step up your social media game. It doesn’t matter if you are already a business owner, or haven’t started creating your brand yet. Networking sites are for everybody and the sooner you begin building your presence, the better. So let’s get started and find out what to do to make it on social media as a brand!

How to start from the scratch on social media

Start with choosing the platforms that will work for you. Depending on your business model, the combination could be different. Remember, don’t try to get on every site in the world. Choose as many as you can sustain, considering that you will be posting the content regularly. Most people in the business have one main platform, and a few secondary channels that just complete it. Just find what works for you.

The importance of branding

I cannot emphasize this enough: branding is really important if you want to stand out and have a recognizable brand. We wrote about visual identity here, but now let’s focus on how to incorporate it to your social media presence.

First of all, as social media profiles don’t give you much options to personalize the page (besides a profile photo, and maybe a cover photo), try to include your branding in the content that you post on a daily or weekly basis, depending on a platform. How to do it? Keep the photos in the same style, put your logo in the corner of your photos as a mini signature, and use the same font.

Second of all, use the same or similar profile picture on every platform. This will make people remember your brand, and instantly recognize you. Also, try to use the same name or nick, so people won’t have any problems with finding you on other platforms.

Last but not least, try not to make it too generic and adjust the content and look to every platform. Cover photos on Facebook have different sizes than those on YouTube, for example.

Be consistent on social media

Consistency is a key to success. As most of the popular platforms use algorithms to measure the engagement on your profile, regular posting is crucial in order to stay relevant. Try to post at least few times a week on all of your profiles. Of course you may use the same content and post it on different platforms, with a few adjustments. Remember about the quality though. Don’t compromise on it, as this is what keeps audience on your channels.

Use language adjusted to your audience

As a brand with a target group, you want to use the language that will apply to your audience. How to find out what language would work best? Join relevant groups on Facebook, observe the community, and be a part of it. Be active and see what language those people use to communicate with each other. This will give you an idea on how to talk to your audience.

Don’t be afraid of filming

Video is a great medium on so many levels. It gives you the opportunity to express yourself and communicate your message in a visual and verbal way all at once. If you don’t have time to record regular, full YouTube videos, try Insta or Facebook stories. This is a great way to show your product, or just talk to your audience. You can ask questions and put a call to action in it. Remember to put subtitles in your video, so anyone can watch it in public without their headphones.

Network and collaborate

Networking is a crucial part of every online business. Well, social media are all about building a community. By interacting and collaborating with other brands or influencers, you have a chance to expand your platform and gain new followers. Additionally, if you cooperate with bigger brands, you can learn from them and get inspiration.

Clear message

It is very important to send a clear and obvious message. When people first encounter you, the last thing you want is to confuse them. Show who you are! But don’t post a lot of private photos on your business accounts, because it distracts the audience and they don’t know if they are following a company or just a random person. You also need to be transparent and communicate your intentions clearly. This way you can gain the trust of your audience.
